Lil Wayne Gets An Early Release From The Pokey?!

After serving only eight months of his one year jail sentence on a weapons possession conviction at Rikers Island in New York City, Lil Wayne was released yesterday. Word on the sidewalk is that the 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., will celebrate his recent release with a lavish party "Welcome Home" party at the King of Diamonds Gentlemens Club here in Miami.

Mack Maine, the president of Wayne's Young Money record label, said the rapper's friends plan to "treat him like a king, like the royalty that he is, and make him feel like we really missed him and welcome him back to the family, basically." Wayne, who worked on new music while behind bars, could also be back on stage sooner rather than later. Maine and others have hinted that he could make a special cameo appearance at a Drake concert on Saturday in Las Vegas.

After first pleading not guilty to gun possession after a July 2007 arrest, Lil Wayne changed his plea to guilty last October in exchange for a reduced 12-month sentence. The judge factored in Weezy's good behavior while he was in the pokey and made the decision to only make him serve eight months.
